Contract Duration: 3 MONTHS (June-August 2019), with a view to extending into a non-contract position come September

We are looking for a 3D Artist to join a tight-knit team of game developers working on an exciting series of rapid prototypes for PC and console. This is a full-time contractor role that is ideal for someone with a firm grasp of 3D modelling, unwrapping, rigging, and animation who wants to get a start in the games industry.

The right candidate is someone who works well in a collaborative shared office environment, can work reliably and independently to a brief, and can rapidly iterate on assets in response to feedback from the team and Art Director. Applications will be judged primarily on the strength of their portfolio and performance on a practical test task.

Responsibilities:
– Creating rapid prototypes on a weekly basis based on design briefs and discussions with the Lead Programmer, Project Manager, and Art Director.
– Working within the company’s existing workflows and pipelines to specified deadlines.
– Maintaining clear lines of communication with the Art Director and Project Manager regarding progress on tasks and to solicit regular feedback.
– Listening to feedback and rapidly iterating on assets to bring them in line with the Art Director’s requirements
– Participating in weekly discussions and collaborative technical design sessions, including making suggestions that could improve existing processes or general game designs.
– Staying up to date with current industry trends and software, and learning new applications and techniques.

Requirements:
– Strong portfolio demonstrating both hard surface and organic 3D modelling.
– High level of competence in your preferred 3D modelling program (3DS Max, Maya, Blender, Zbrush etc).
– Ability to quickly unwrap models and maximise use of texture space. – Experience with Substance Painter and PBR texture workflows.
– Good computer skills and experience with Google Drive, Trello, and similar Web-based tools.
– Willing to learn new tools and workflows.
– Applicant must have their own licenses to any software they will use and should have a laptop to work on.
– Applicant must be available for a minimum of three full working days on-site in Belfast each week (Tue-Thu), with flexibility for remote work on Mondays and Fridays.

Desirable Criteria:
– Experience with the Unity 3D game engine and preparing assets for it.
– Firm grasp of working within performance constraints for games.
– Firm grasp of animation for Unity.
– Understanding of techniques such as triplanar mapping, tessellation, level of detail, inverse kinematics, and texture baking.
– Experience with Photoshop or equivalent for 2D artwork.
– Experience with Amplify Shader Editor, Substance Designer, or similar node-based art tools.
